About baton Rouge symphony

Founded in 1947, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) is one of the oldest arts organization in the region and the longest running professional orchestra in the state. Its programs include a Symphony League, a Symphony Chorus, and the Louisiana Youth Orchestras. The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra reaches thousands of young people each year while conducting numerous education and outreach programs.

BRSO’s season consists of a six-concert Masterworks series, sponsored by Brian Harris BMW, as well as a four-concert Chamber Series, sponsored by Carole and Charles Lamar. The Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation “Great Performers in Concert” series has brought world-class talent to Louisiana’s capital city for the past ten years. These one-night only concerts in collaboration with the orchestra have featured artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Chris Botti, Itzhak Perlman, and Natalie Cole.

A Message from the board chair

The mission of Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) is to enhance the quality of life in our community through music and for nearly 70 years we have been the premier musical organization in Louisiana’s capital city. The quality of the orchestra is outstanding and is under the direction of Maestro Timothy Muffitt, who will soon celebrate 20 seasons with BRSO. We are seeking an Executive Director with strong leadership skills to help guide the organization in implementing our strategic plan, creating new audiences, and continuing the record of performance excellence that our patrons have come to expect.

The new Executive Director will be a person of the highest integrity with a passion for performing arts and a proven track record of leading fundraising efforts and collaborating in partnerships with other arts organizations. In particular, BRSO has close relationships with the music programs at Louisiana State University and Southern University, and we expect our Executive Director to continue to build on these partnerships going forward.

It is an exciting time for BRSO with new, diverse programing, a major concert hall renovation, and strong community support. The Board of Directors is committed to the future and continuing the legacy of BRSO for the next 70 years and beyond.
